The report mentions Belarus as an importer of Russian weapons.
The largest arms exporters in 2020-2024 were the United States, France, and Russia, while the importers were Ukraine, India, and Qatar. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Belarus has lost its position (20th place) in the arms export market, which it held in 2019-2023, the Radio Svaboda website writes.
As follows from the report, by the end of 2024, Belarus was not included in the list of 25 largest arms exporters.
Belarus is mentioned in the document as an importer of Russian weapons. According to SIPRI, in 2020-2024, Russia supplied weapons to 33 countries. 74% of Russian arms exports went to Asia and Oceania, 12% to Africa, 7.4% to Europe (Armenia, Belarus, and Serbia), and 6.4% to the Middle East. Two-thirds of Russian arms exports in 2020-2024 went to three countries: India (38%), China (17%), and Kazakhstan (11%).
The largest arms exporters in 2020-2024 were the United States, France, and Russia, while the largest importers were Ukraine, India, and Qatar.
According to the Stockholm Institute, the United States further increased its share of global arms exports to 43%, while Russia's exports fell by 64%.
At least 35 countries supplied weapons to Ukraine after Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
Ukraine received 8.8% of global arms imports in 2020-2024. The largest share of the exports went to the United States (45%), Germany (12%) and Poland (11%). Ukraine was the only European state among the top ten importers in 2020-24, although many other European countries significantly increased their arms imports during this period.
“The new arms transfer data clearly reflect the rearmament taking place among states in Europe in response to the threat from Russia. However, some major arms importers, including Saudi Arabia, India and China, recorded significant declines in imports for various reasons, despite high threat perceptions in their regions,” said Matthew George, SIPRI’s Arms Transfers Programme Director.
