European leaders welcome the results of Ukraine-U.S. talks in Jeddah

An important step towards peace has been made.

European leaders and institutions have responded positively to the results of the Ukraine-U.S. talks in Jeddah on March 11. The important meeting in Saudi Arabia has been praised by leaders from European countries, writes Obozrevatel.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Ukraine and the United States made progress during the talks. The politician congratulated Kyiv on this achievement.

"Now the ball is clearly in Russia's court. France and its partners remain committed to a strong and long-term peace, backed by reliable security guarantees for Ukraine," added Macron.

The results of the first round of Ukraine-U.S. talks in Saudi Arabia were also welcomed by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He noted that the beginning of negotiations between the sides is an "outstanding breakthrough."

"I warmly welcome the agreement today in Jeddah and congratulate President Trump and President Zelensky on this outstanding breakthrough. This is an important moment for peace in Ukraine, and now we must all double our efforts to achieve a strong and secure peace as soon as possible," emphasized the politician.

On behalf of the European Commission, its President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the results of the meeting.

"We welcome today's news from Jeddah, including the proposal for a ceasefire agreement and the resumption of intelligence-sharing and U.S. security assistance. This is a positive development that could be a step toward a comprehensive, fair, and lasting peace for Ukraine. Now the ball is in Russia's court. The EU is ready to fully play its role," she stated.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also welcomed the results of the talks between the United States and Ukraine.

"Italy fully supports the efforts of the United States under President Trump’s leadership aimed at achieving a just peace that guarantees Ukraine's long-term security. The decision is now with Russia," said the statement from the Italian government.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote that, "It seems the Americans and Ukrainians have taken an important step toward peace."

"Europe is ready to help achieve a just and lasting peace," he assured.
