The special representative of the President of the United States of America Donald Trump in the Middle East, Steve Whitkoff, is returning to the United States with the results of negotiations with senior officials in the Kremlin, which took place in the evening of 13 March, to hand them over to the head of the White House. This became known from the message of the American President's national security adviser Mike Waltz, which he voiced on the air of Fox News TV channel.
‘I spoke with my colleague who is there, and he is on his way back,’ noted Waltz.
According to him, Whitkoff is to bring to the White House the results of the talks with the Kremlin and voice to Donald Trump the main theses that were heard from the Russian side during the meeting in Moscow.
‘He's coming back so we can assess it and discuss it with President Trump, who will decide on the next steps,’ the adviser said.
Watlz has not yet disclosed details about the meeting between the US and Russian sides in Moscow. He only added to reporters that he could express ‘cautious optimism’ about a meeting between Whitkoff and Kremlin officials.
When speaking of ‘optimism’ about the talks that took place in Moscow, Waltz is referring to the prospects for a settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the end of hostilities. However, the Trump adviser adds that he will not ‘get ahead’ and reveal the optimistic results of the talks before the US president does.
