Butusov: Ukrainian Troops Retreating From The Kursk Region With Losses

  • 16.03.2025, 10:56

Enemy infantry crossed the border at two locations.

There is no encirclement of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region. The enemy continues to maintain the initiative, with advantages in infantry, aviation, and drones, and is advancing. Ukrainian forces are gradually retreating into Ukrainian territory, fighting along the way.

This was reported by Yuriy Butusov, the editor-in-chief of Censor.NET, on Facebook, commenting on the situation in the Kursk region as of 2:00 AM on March 16, 2025.

According to him, the losses in recent battles and during the retreat, especially due to poor organization, are unfortunately significant. The enemy also suffers substantial losses, continuing their frontal attacks.

"The enemy is attempting to break through our defense on the flanks of the bridgehead, but all these attacks are being repelled. The enemy has crossed into Ukrainian territory in two areas with several small infantry groups, aiming to encircle our forces, but the Russian advance has been stopped at the border," Butusov notes.

He also points out that the key position for controlling the border area in this region is the ridge of heights along the border within Russian territory. There are currently no signs of an offensive towards Sumy. However, the enemy will attempt to gain control over the border strip along the border.

"There must be accountability for what has happened. Who was in charge, what factors were not taken into account in time, who made erroneous decisions in Kyiv and on the ground—I've gathered a lot of information. I am now collecting all known data on the losses. I am preparing a public investigation for society and a closed analysis afterward for our military," Butusov concludes.

As a reminder, earlier Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Kursk operation had achieved its primary goal—diverting a significant portion of Russian forces from the Pokrovsk and Kharkiv directions. Later, the President added that the operation in the Kursk region continues, and there is no encirclement of Ukrainian troops.
